Notions of a teleological ‘good ending’ evident in utopian constructs of various kinds have been presented hand-in-hand with the idea of an ideal state. Intimately linked to these ideas is utopia as a regulatory mechanism in the creation of culture and as grounded in the ideas of progressionalism and rationalism that have dominated scientific and philosophical thinking for centuries.
