In L’Archéologie du Savoir[1] (1969), translated as The Archaeology of Knowledge (1972), the French cultural philosopher, Michel Foucault (1926-1984) reflects on the creation and production of knowledge. He postulates that the study of the history of ideas has to do with the establishment of historical world views, but especially also with the collapse and decline of systems and ideas. The modi of knowledge become deformed through new discourses that develop and transform society.
My transmutation of word into image here has to do with the notion that experience, knowledge and information that are created or occur in the world and are eventually ‘buried’ or forgotten, and they often perish.
