Most of Postmodern art is characterised by a deconstructionist mindset so this course has wide application. In this module we consider deconstruction as a theory, a philosophy as well as an artmaking strategy. Aspects such as difference and intertextualisation are considered in theory and praxis. There is special focus on the international artist Anselm Kiefer and his deconstructionist approach to artmaking.
What you will learn:
You will gain a basic understanding of deconstruction as philosophy.
You will acquire insight into the application of deconstructionist thinking to art.
By way of the example of the work of Anselm Kiefer you will be able to recognise the zeitgeist of deconstruction in many other artists' work.
There is an Assignment for this module. The Assignment is practical and should take about 1 day.
